TRER: Texas Rare Earth Resources Corp is a North American based mining company engaged in the exploration and development of mineral properties. Their flagship property, RoundTopMountainin Hudspeth County, Texas, is held under a 20-year renewable lease from the State of Texas to explore and develop a rare earth-uranium-beryllium prospect which includes niobium, tantalum and gallium. Their lease with the State of Texascovers 860 acres and prospecting permits covering an adjacent 9,345 acres.[1]

The company’s stock price closed at $2.00 yesterday. The company’s 52 week range has been from a $10.00 high to a $0.25 low.[2]

Part of the company’s website reads:

The company’s flagship RoundTopMountainproject is located in Hudspeth County, Texas, approximately 85 miles SouthEast of El Paso, and encompasses four adjacent mountains and the surrounding flat-lands. Texas Rare Earths holds a 20-year renewable lease from the State on RoundTopMountainand prospecting permits on the adjacent areas.

Cabot Corp, Cypress Minerals, government agencies and academic institutions explored and studied Round Top in the 1980’s. High concentrations of heavy rare earth elements, niobium, tantalum, gallium and other rare metals were discovered in the massive Round Top rhyolite. Beryllium and uranium occur at the lower contact of the rhyolite. Two beryllium feasibility studies were completed establishing a resource. Id

The government agency and academic research noted above further resulted in several publications, the principal of which was published in the Geological Society of America Special Paper 246 in 1990, p.103-120.

Important conclusions of this paper were:
* “The rhyolites are so enriched in a number of trace elements that they should be considered large-tonnage, low grade resources of several rare metals, including yttrium, heavy rare earths, niobium, tantalum, lithium and thorium.”
* “Many of the economically interesting trace elements occur as discrete minerals.”
* “The resource is vast. The Round Top laccolith contains at least 1.6 billion metric tons of rhyolite.” (Source:http://texasrareearth.com/round-top-mountain)
The mountains vast resources in niobium and the possible breakdown of the compound gives the micro-cap company with options for possible buyers of the raw material.

Niobium

Niobium is used mostly in alloys, the largest part in special steel such as that used in gas pipelines. Although alloys contain only a maximum of 0.1%, that small percentage of niobium improves the strength of the steel. The temperature stability of niobium-containing superalloys is important for its use in jet and rocket engines. Niobium is used in various superconducting materials. These superconducting alloys, also containing titanium and tin, are widely used in the superconducting magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include its use in welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics and jewelry. In the last two applications, niobium’s low toxicity and ability to be colored by anodization are particular advantages.[3]

APPLICATIONS
It is estimated that out of 44,500 metric tons of niobium mined in 2006, 90% was used in the production of high-grade structural steel, followed by its use in superalloys. The use of niobium alloys for superconductors and in electronic components account only for a small share of the production.

Steel production
Niobium is an effective microalloying element for steel. Adding niobium to the steel causes the formation of niobium carbide and niobium nitride within the structure of the steel. These compounds improve the grain refining, retardation of recrystallization, and precipitation hardening of the steel. These effects in turn increase the toughness, strength, formability, and weldability of the microalloyed steel. Microalloyed stainless steels have a niobium content of less than 0.1%.  It is an important alloy addition to high strength low alloy steels which are widely used as structural components in modern automobiles. These niobium containing alloys are strong and are often used in pipeline construction.[4]

The vast amount of resources held by Texas Rare Earth Resources Corp (Stock Ticker:TRER) could be a supply line for recyclers of steel, such as Waste Management, (WM) if they can break down the compound efficiently.

Texas Rare Earth Resources is lead by Marc LeVier who acts as the Director and Chief Executive Officer.  Mr. LeVier spent the last 22 years with Newmont Mining Corp in several professional capacities.  You can find the company by clicking here.

Small Cap Promotions Become More Efficient Than Ever

The Internet has allowed us to move the speed of information and money faster than ever imagined before.  Small Cap Company promoter Cervitude™ has been a leader in providing an efficient means of creating awareness about a small public company.  A company with a small market cap, under 200 million lets say, has very little money for promoting their business overall.  Most money is spent on gaining and retaining customers or improving production or in most cases, growing the business.  In days past, a company that was public would either have to set-up an Investor Relations program for over 100k or watch their stock price plummet (regardless of whether they were profitable or not) as company awareness lacks.  With the advent of the internet, many services have become more affordable.  You can now reach million for the same price it cost you to reach thousands just a few years ago.  A simple press release, as shown on sites like PushYourRank™, can get you world-wide exposure with prices starting at under $400.  A more niche firm that focused on small cap promotions can offer a wide array of services that will bring more people to view your company.  For example, Cervitude™ offers these following services:

Media Relations

  • Set up press release distribution through multiple sources including PR News Wire, Business wire, Market wire and multiple other news sources.
  • Highlight company achievements, completed goals and future projects.
  • Help clients to reach out to local media including local news, papers and articles.
  • Set up interviews and coach management beforehand.

Web IR

  • Advise on/create investor relations section of client’s website.
  • Coordinate with firm maintaining client’s website to keep site up to date.
  • Receive and respond to online requests for investor kits and keep track of interested parties.
Now these services are not anything new, but the fact that Cervitude™ has promotion campaigns starting at under $100 is new.  For an over the counter company which may only have cash holdings of less than $50,000, this is money well spent.  To contact the small cap promotions company, email cervitude@ymail.com

Yoplait Yogurt to sell half to General Mills

Oh my Yogurt!!

A 50% stake in French yoghurt maker Yoplait will soon be sold to US food giant General Mills, according to sources close to the situation, as reported by BBC, Wall Street Journal Online, and Financial Times.

This values the company at almost 2 billion dollars.

PAI, the French private equity firm that was selling its 50 per cent stake in Yoplait, seems to be the biggest winner in the deal thus far, reports the Financial Times. The remaining 50 per cent is held by Sodiaal, the French farmers’ co-operative. Id. Yoplait is currently a brand of yogurt produced by a company owned by two French holdings, SODIAAL and PAI Partners, SODIAAL to hold the remaining 50 percent share, according to WIKI.

This news comes as General Mills sets to have a Webcast Earnings Conference Call on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.  General Mills closed at $36.13 today on The New York Stock Exchange.
