TRER: Texas Rare Earth Resources Corp is a North American based mining company engaged in the exploration and development of mineral properties. The government agency and academic research noted above further resulted in several publications, the principal of which was published in the Geological Society of America Special Paper 246 in 1990, p.103-120.

Important conclusions of this paper were:
* “The rhyolites are so enriched in a number of trace elements that they should be considered large-tonnage, low grade resources of several rare metals, including yttrium, heavy rare earths, niobium, tantalum, lithium and thorium.”
* “Many of the economically interesting trace elements occur as discrete minerals.”

The mountains vast resources in niobium and the possible breakdown of the compound gives the micro-cap company with options for possible buyers of the raw material.

Niobium

Niobium is used mostly in alloys, the largest part in special steel such as that used in gas pipelines. Although alloys contain only a maximum of 0.1%, that small percentage of niobium improves the strength of the steel. The temperature stability of niobium-containing superalloys is important for its use in jet and rocket engines. Niobium is used in various superconducting materials. These superconducting alloys, also containing titanium and tin, are widely used in the superconducting magnets of MRI scanners. Other applications of niobium include its use in welding, nuclear industries, electronics, optics, numismatics and jewelry. In the last two applications, niobium’s low toxicity and ability to be colored by anodization are particular advantages.[3]

APPLICATIONS
It is estimated that out of 44,500 metric tons of niobium mined in 2006, 90% was used in the production of high-grade structural steel, followed by its use in superalloys. The use of niobium alloys for superconductors and in electronic components account only for a small share of the production.

Steel production
Niobium is an effective microalloying element for steel. Adding niobium to the steel causes the formation of niobium carbide and niobium nitride within the structure of the steel. These compounds improve the grain refining, retardation of recrystallization, and precipitation hardening of the steel. These effects in turn increase the toughness, strength, formability, and weldability of the microalloyed steel. Microalloyed stainless steels have a niobium content of less than 0.1%.  It is an important alloy addition to high strength low alloy steels which are widely used as structural components in modern automobiles. These niobium containing alloys are strong and are often used in pipeline construction.[4]

The Biggest Bull on The Street

A 50% stake in French yoghurt maker Yoplait will soon be sold to US food giant General Mills, according to sources close to the situation, as reported by BBC, Wall Street Journal Online, and Financial Times.

This values the company at almost 2 billion dollars.

PAI, the French private equity firm that was selling its 50 per cent stake in Yoplait, seems to be the biggest winner in the deal thus far, reports the Financial Times. The remaining 50 per cent is held by Sodiaal, the French farmers’ co-operative. Id. Yoplait is currently a brand of yogurt produced by a company owned by two French holdings, SODIAAL and PAI Partners, SODIAAL to hold the remaining 50 percent share, according to WIKI.

This news comes as General Mills sets to have a Webcast Earnings Conference Call on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.  General Mills closed at $36.13 today on The New York Stock Exchange.

Today was a momentous day for search engine giant “GOOGLE” posting earnings that beat Wall Street estimates, as expected.  Google revenue grew by 26% in the 4th quarter to $8.44 billion and to top it off it named a new CEO, Larry Page.

Born March 26, 1973m Mr. Page is most notably known for, duh!!! Starting Google.  As of April 4, 2011 he will take charge of Google’s day-to-day operations as Chief Executive Officer.  The current CEO, Eric Schmidt, will become executive chairman.

Google, based in Mountain View, California, rose 2.2 percent in extended trading to $640.28, after falling $4.98 to $626.77 at 4 p.m. New York time on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The shares declined 4.2 percent last year.  The closing price was $626.77 with after market trading seeing 1.95% increase after reports of earnings.

So why the new change, or old change if you will?  Wall Street has taken a beating over the last two days with stocks dipping down.  Even more can be expected with weary investors pulling out on a moments notice.  This change in leadership could very well be what the street needs for a boast in momentum. 

This on the tail of Apple Inc. CEO, Steve Jobs, taking a leave for health issues.  Apple Inc. had a huge run up of its stock price hitting the companies all time high.  With momentum like that, the market seemed on a verge of recovery in no time at all.  Then the fall of the leader left investors wondering where the next visionary CEO would intervene, and Google, never shy of trying to change the world, seems to have down just that.  With headlines and media coverage constantly speaking of  management that had the “industrialism” to “bring America back”, Google could very well be making, at least visually, an effort to procure this. 

The search giant has many thing on its plate and could very well see their Android platform be a huge boast in the coming quarters.  Android topped Apple’s iPhone in U.S. smart phone subscribers for the first time in November, accounting for 26 percent of the market, compared with 25 percent for Apple, according to ComScore Inc. BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. had the top spot with 33.5 percent.

Larry Page at this point doesn’t have much work to do as his appointment does not start for several months, but the changing of the guards, or at least the announcement could not have come at a better time with investor turning their head slightly on this two-day downtrend.  That’s the bull on the street.
